State leaders say flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and at all public buildings, grounds and facilities across the state.

People across the state, along with businesses, schools and municipalities, are encouraged to also fly the flag at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

Officer Joshua Eyer was a six year veteran of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Thomas Weeks, 48, of Mooresville, North Carolina, was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service, serving in the Western District of North Carolina for the last 10 years.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the duration of time indicated.

The flags will fly at half-staff in honor of the four officers killed in the line of duty Monday. The officer were members of a collaborative U.S. Marshals task force of local, state, and federal law enforcement officers.

“Yesterday, North Carolina and our country lost four heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty working to protect our communities,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Our prayers are with their friends and families as they navigate this difficult time and we remember and honor the lives of these law enforcement officers.”
