ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is ordering all flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings in remembrance of the fallen Mankato soldier.

This design became the first national flag during Albania’s period of independence from 1443 to 1479. Afterward, Albania was under Ottoman rule again until it declared independence in 1912 and reestablished the national flag.

During the 15th century, Albania was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. Albanian military commander Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg led a rebellion under a red banner featuring a black, double-headed eagle. The eagle symbol was inspired by designs used on the coats of arms of Albanian noble families.
